Finding Your Voice H3 (After School)

Description

This is a creative writing workshop to get students thinking about their US college essay and the story they would like to share with admissions officers. It will require a lot of self-reflection on the students and they will be asked to share some parts of their lives. The goal is to help students complete a short and creative narrative of their lives that highlight an aspect of their growth and development as they become a mature adult. Sign up is via Ms Chien directly. The course will last 8 weeks, starting the week of the 21st February.

Objectives

The goal is to help students complete a short and creative narrative of their lives that highlights an aspect of their growth and development as they become a mature adult. It is also an opportunity to share those very personal pieces of writing with their peers and a way for students to work together on developing their own unique story.

Debate Y7 - H4 (After School)

Description

Debate Society runs in two different groups, split between established debaters - who immerse themselves in specific debate formats such as British Parliamentary - and less experienced debaters who have a focus on developing their general debate skills. We can cater for students who wish to challenge themselves in debates against other schools and also for those who just wish to get better at speaking in lessons.

Oracy, communication, public speaking, planning and research skills are all relevant to successful debaters. We also hope to foster better awareness and knowledge of the pressing global issues facing us today.

Objectives

There are various debate competitions that take place at school level within Taiwan, using various formats, which we have been entering in the last few years. We have also hosted the Taiwan Schools Debate Challenge in pre-pandemic years. In the last two years, the Covid situation has naturally meant that there have been fewer debates in person, but there have been more opportunities to debate online.

Film Society HS (After School)

Description

Students will watch a classic film, discuss technique and meaning, and then recreate some tropes/elements seen in that film

Just Write Y7 - H4 (Lunchtime)

Description

Just Write is a CCA dedicated to helping you to build the habit of regular writing, by providing a regular time for us to gather as writers and 'Just Write'.


After writing, you are welcome share your methods, successes, challenges, and opportunities as writers.


No One Will Read or Critique Your Writing

This CCA is a safe space for writers to work on their craft. You are welcome to share if you wish but we won't invade your privacy or ask you to do anything. We gather to write.


All Skill Levels are Welcome

Beginner or pro, whatever you’re writing, whatever form it takes, wherever you are in your process.


All Types of Writing are Welcome

All writers are welcome, whatever you are working on - novel, essay, school report, poem, screenplay, or anything else. Don't have any current writing projects? Don't worry. Prompt material and monthly challenges are available if you need some inspiration.


We meet two lunchtimes per week in the Writers' Hub for 40 minutes. A typical session would look like this

1-5 minutes: share writing goals

5-30 minutes: quiet writing time

30-40 minutes: optional sharing of what you achieved / any difficulties you faced / reflections on the writing process

Pride Alliance (alternating every two weeks ) HS Lunchtime

Description

Pride Alliance is a group of students that identify as members of the TES LGBTQ+ community and their allies. It is a safe space for students to be themselves and discuss and educate each other about topics that are important to them. They also do some activities for visibility in the school, such as Rainbow Day, and have raised money for LGBTQ+ charities. This is an inclusive group that does not assume anyone's sexual or gender identity and is welcoming to all.

There is no sign up on Schoolsbuddy. If you wish to attend drop in during one or both of the sessions.

Le Pouces Vert/The Green Thumbs (All year groups)

Description

The Environment Committee of the French Section is opening a CCA for all students for gardening and ecological action: Les Pouces Verts / the Green Thumbs (in reference to the book Les Pouces Verts by Maurice Druon). It will take place on Tuesdays from 3.10 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. The first central activity will be to build and cultivate a vegetable garden, but also to initiate ecological actions throughout the school. All these actions will contribute to the development of students' environmental awareness, their education in their own health, and their ability to observe their natural environment.

The CCA will start on February 22nd. If you want your child to join this activity, please use the Schoolsbuddy platform on February 11th to 14th.
